(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 28 - A 200-kilo gorilla attacked an employee of the Madrid zoo who was giving him food, breaking both arms and seriously injuring her head.
The 46-year-old woman who has worked at the zoo for 19 years had entered Malabo's cage, a large 29-year-old male, protected by a triple door, and found herself face to face with the animal, which attacked her.
The Spanish press reports it.
"Zoo staff proceeded to remove the animal and anesthetize it with a soothing dart. Transported to its dormitory, it calmed down."
Malabo - the zoo specified - has been raised in contact with humans since his birth. The gorillas maintain a behavior of "closeness and protection" towards the staff in charge of his care.
