With her partner on the hood, a woman drove on the highway and seriously injured him - she has now been sentenced to seven years in prison.
The Mönchengladbach regional court found the defendant from Kempen on the Lower Rhine guilty of attempted manslaughter and serious and dangerous physical harm.
On the evening of December 27, 2019, the 51-year-old drove drunk with her partner on the hood at up to 130 kilometers per hour on the A 52 and A 61 motorways.
The 53-year-old finally fell on the road and suffered such severe head injuries that he is now a nursing case.
Condemned speaks of an aggressive partner
The 51-year-old had her lawyer explain that she was afraid of her aggressive partner.
This was preceded by a jealousy dispute, which escalated on the way back from visiting the Düsseldorf Christmas market at a rest area.
A witness had confirmed that the 53-year-old screamed around there and hit the car several times.
When the woman finally wanted to drive away, the man jumped on the hood.
The woman had her defense attorney explain that she drove out of fear and expected her boyfriend to jump out.
"Instead, he held on."
According to one expert, the woman was heavily intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 2.3 per mille at the time of the crime, but was neither restricted in her control nor her responsibility.
The defense announced an appeal against the judgment.
