And on the Def: 'Italy resilient, GDP drop below double figures'. Majority meeting in view of the update note (ANSA)

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte defends the president of INPS Pasquale Tridico at the center of a controversy over the salary issue.

"I follow hundreds of dossiers - said the premier questioned on the point during a press conference after the meeting with the president of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga - but I was not informed about this in detail. I can say, at the outcome of the information given, that

the INPS president at the time of taking office took much lower emoluments than the previous president

. It was necessary, on the basis of regulatory provisions, to adjust the emoluments ".

"Even if you look at the comparative tables,

the INPS president still pays fees that are in line or lower than comparable institutions

".

"Having clarified the aspect" of the salary of Tridico, "the theme is that there are Italian citizens who are still waiting for the layoff. On this the president of INPS, all INPS workers and those who have a role, myself first, we have to work day and night. This is a problem for those who have no means of livelihood. It makes no sense to say that millions have taken it but there is still a small number who have not received it, because they are families ".

The premier also spoke on the maneuver after he had a meeting this morning with Minister Roberto Gualtieri and the majority heads of delegation on the update note to the Def, in view of the Council of Ministers which should take place tomorrow evening.

"In spite of a pandemic that is producing a global recession, Italy is also showing economic resilience, if we take into account that in the last twenty years lost. Today the budget is very heavy but we have positive notes", said Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte answering a question about Nadef.

"The decline in GDP is very heavy but reasonably, according to the most accredited forecasts we will be below the double digit, then there will be a rebound effect next year".

"I hope that Nadef will be done this week, because there are public finance deadlines that must be respected and it is good not to rush things. But it is right that it be approved with the necessary political consent", said the president of the commission. Finances of the Chamber, Luigi Marattin, leaving Palazzo Chigi at the end of the table.
