(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, SEPTEMBER 29 - Italy, Germany and Ireland will be the first countries to be able to connect, from October 17, to the EU system that allows dialogue between national apps for tracing Covid infections, ensuring their operation across the border.

This is what ANSA learns from high-level Commission officials.

The system is called Gateway, and does not require the installation of a new app by users, who when they go abroad will be able to send or receive reports in case of contagion or contact with infected people, as already happens in national territories.

In the EU there are 15 countries that have adopted or are about to adopt a tracking app: these are Italy, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, Holland, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic .

Three other countries (Belgium, Cyprus and Lithuania) will join in the coming days.

The average of downloads is 10%.

The European Commission invites them to increase them, guaranteeing the protection of personal data and remembering that even one more download can have a great impact in terms of traceability of infections and response to the virus.
