Boeing confirmed: Ultraviolet pole could disinfect aircraft quickly between landing and takeoff • First company to use - Etihad

Afraid to get infected in Corona on a flight?

The American aircraft manufacturer Boeing has approved the launch of the new technology that was developed and registered as a patent together with Healthe from Florida.

The development relies on ultraviolet light that will disinfect surfaces on the plane quickly and thoroughly, so that the aircraft manufacturer's planes at airlines around the world will be able to clean the planes between flights.

Boeing designed and developed the ultraviolet pole as part of the company's Safe Travel Initiative (CTI) to support customers and improve the safety and well-being of passengers and crews during the Corona epidemic.

The first airline to start using the technology is Etihad, the second largest company in the UAE that is expected to start operating direct flights to Israel in the coming months.

"The ultraviolet rod is designed to be more efficient than similar devices. It quickly disinfects aircraft surfaces and further strengthens other layers of protection for passengers and crew," said Mike Dylney, who leads the company's safe travel initiative.

Boeing has been working for six months to turn the idea into a working model, and Healthe will now take this prototype and make it available worldwide.

Healthe will manufacture and distribute the commercial pole, and will help airlines and other potential companies fight the corona virus.

The technology could be available to airlines as early as late fall.

The device is an addition to existing disinfection and protection devices, which include the use of highly efficient air filters, which capture more than 99.9% of the particles and prevent them from returning to the space of the aircraft.

So, how does it work?

As you can see in the attached video, the airline workers simply move the pole near the surfaces and thus disinfect them quickly.

How long will it take to sin?

Thorough disinfection of the cockpit should take about 15 minutes.

If the airlines operate several ultraviolet rods simultaneously, it will be possible to disinfect the aircraft in a short time between landing and takeoff.
