The public prosecutor's office in Celle has brought charges against a 21-year-old right-wing extremist, among other things, on suspicion of sedition and the preparation of a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state.
The man was apparently planning specific attacks against religious minorities in Germany and had acquired an arsenal for this purpose.
According to a statement from the Celle public prosecutor's office, which SPIEGEL has received, the man owned, among other things, two crossbows with arrows and a total of four knives, including a combat knife.
He wanted to use this "in the implementation of his plan", it says in the letter.
Hatred against Jews, Muslims, blacks and women
In an anonymous internet chat on May 29, 2020, the man told a chat partner he did not know that he intended to kill "Muslims right away".
He is already in front of a mosque and is in possession of weapons.
The model for him is the assassin in Christchurch.
His chat partner then informed the police, according to the message, who took the 21-year-old into custody the following day.
Accordingly, the man is currently in custody.
The 21-year-old is said to have radicalized over a longer period of time.
According to the announcement, he dealt with "right-wing extremist ideas at least since March 2019" and developed "a hatred of Jews, Muslims, blacks and women".
He wanted to kill as many Muslims as possible in Germany and thereby create a climate of fear and uncertainty.
