(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, SEPTEMBER 29 - In a letter to the president of the European Commission, Ursula von Der Leyen, the Hungarian premier Viktor Orban calls for the resignation of the vice president of EU values, Vera Jourova, for her "derogatory public declarations" on Hungary.

"According to the vice president, a 'sick democracy' is being built in Hungary", writes Orban in the document, underlining that Jourova "insulted European citizens of Hungarian nationality by saying that they are unable to form an independent opinion".

The Hungarian premier believes that the statements by the vice president are "incompatible with his current mandate" and "therefore his resignation is indispensable".

"In the meantime - he adds -, the Hungarian government suspends all bilateral political contacts with her".
