Without "Ladies and Gentlemen": The airline that advocates gender equality
If you fly from next month on one of Japan Airlines' flights, you will no longer hear an appeal to this or that gender in the announcement.
"We have pledged not to discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or other personal characteristics," said a company spokesman.

In Japan, gender equality is being taken a step further, and as of next month, you will no longer hear the pilot or squadron of Japan Airlines (JAL) greet "ladies and gentlemen."
Instead, starting Oct. 1, the plane's crew will use neutral gender expressions such as "attention to all passengers," or references to passengers as "everyone," local website Mainichi reported.
Japan Airlines is one of several global airlines that adopt gender-free greetings.
However, the non-gender messages will only apply in the English language, since in the Japanese language the expression usually used for such declarations is already neutral in the first place.
The JAL decision did not make much noise in Japan.
"This is a small matter that most people do not really care about, because almost all Japanese-speaking passengers cannot understand this change in an English message," Prof. Kazuya Kwaguchi, a sociologist at the University of Hiroshima Shodo, told the BBC.
“However, as one of the leading and most LGBT - friendly companies in Japan, the decision should be appreciated as a significant step towards improvement in other community issues.
I think it is important that large companies start such initiatives, because other companies, medium or small, tend to follow suit. "
