The first debate between the presidential candidates of the United States has been characterized by its sour tone, with interruptions and personal attacks.
Tweeters who were watching the confrontation between the president, Donald Trump, and the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, have commented sarcastically and also disgusted this unpleasant tone.
In addition to the off-color tones, many shared their surprise when Trump has refused to condemn white supremacism.
The president also sent a message to the Proud Boys ("the proud boys"), a racist group that advocates the use of violence.
Trump does not condemn white supremacism
When the debate turned to race riots, the moderator, Chris Wallace, asked Donald Trump if he condemned white supremacist groups.
Trump sidestepped the question and sent a direct message to a far-right group called the Proud Boys: "Stand back and wait."
The moment was commented with consternation on Twitter, where the satisfaction with which this group had received this message from the president was highlighted.

The tone of the debate was tense, with Trump attacking Biden's children and constantly interrupting.
The Democratic candidate even told him to shut up and called him a "clown."
Biden's supporters applauded this departure, but many criticized a tone that fell short of what is expected of a debate between candidates for the US presidency.
Some compared it to a discussion on Facebook and predicted a second fist debate in a parking lot.

An outclassed moderator
The moderator of the debate, Fox reporter Chris Wallace, seemed overwhelmed by the tone of the conversation.
On Twitter he was compared to a substitute teacher and asked to be replaced by anyone who had been confined with their children since March.
There was also criticism among Trump's followers because, in their opinion, he was combative only with the president and not with Biden.

According to polls, Biden won the debate.
But for many the show was not exactly edifying.
Andrew Yang, a candidate for the Democratic primary and defender of universal basic income, even tweeted that anyone who had followed him deserved a salary of $ 1,000 a month.
