Prof. Gabi Barbash's entourage made it clear tonight (Wednesday) that the proposal to serve as the corona commander in place of Roni Gamzo is irrelevant.

According to an earlier publication in News 12, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is interested in offering Prof. Barbash again the position of corona commissioner in place of Prof. Gamzo, who will leave as agreed in advance on November 1.

Barbash, as mentioned, rejected the offer to serve in the position only last July, after the matter of his appointment almost became a fait accompli.

Among other things, it was reported that he rejected the proposal at the time due to the lack of sufficient powers for his method.

Barbash, who serves as a commentator on News 12, has recently spoken out a lot about the need to take a relatively strict restriction.

Remember in particular his confrontation with the chairman of the Corona Committee, MK Yifat Shasha-Bitton, in the 12th News Studio.

Prof. Barbash (70) has been a well-known figure in the Israeli public for decades.

He served for two different terms as the director of Ichilov Hospital, and on November 4, 1995, he became one of the main figures on the night Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated, when the prime minister addressed Ichilov, where he was pronounced dead.

In 1996, he was appointed director general of the Ministry of Health. After about three years, he resigned and returned to his job at Ichilov Hospital.

Earlier in Israel Today, it was reported that one of the other candidates for the position was local government chairman Haim Bibbs. In addition, the name of the director general of the Ministry of Health, Moshe Bar-Siman Tov, until recently, was mentioned as a candidate.
