Coronavirus cases do not stop accumulating in Argentina.
And the great unknown is how
far they will go
.
Our country is already in eighth place in the number of positive cases, after having surpassed Mexico.
However, if the population of each country is taken into account, Argentines are
the fourth most infected population in the world
, among the group of nations that make up the world's top 10 cases.
Of the 45 million inhabitants of the country, 736,609 people already had coronavirus.
This represents a rate of
16,216 cases per million
.
Among the top 10 countries in the table, only the United States, Brazil and Peru have a higher proportion of infections.
Outside of the top 10 countries with the most cases, Chile also surpasses Argentina in cases per million.
The rest of the world territories that surpass Argentina in cases per million have
small and incomparable populations
, all below 10 million inhabitants.
That causes the infection rate to grow rapidly with a much smaller handful of infections.
For example, Qatar has 44 thousand cases per million, but its population is 2.8 million.
In total it has 125,500 cases.
The question is, beyond that ranking,
how many cases of coronavirus has Argentina “contributed” to the world
.
Its population represents 0.67 percent of the planet's inhabitants, but "its" pandemic represents
2.17 percent
of coronavirus cases.
This is
3.39 times more
than it should have according to its number of inhabitants.
That, in addition, is an average since the beginning of the pandemic, since in recent days and as Argentina approaches the peak,
the problem has worsened
: today it
accounts for 4.91 percent
of the infections that exist every day in the world.
In other words, in recent weeks Argentina is having
more than 7 times
the number of cases that it should according to its number of inhabitants.
This is what makes our country continue to grow in the ranking, without a roof in sight, now with the strong rise in Santa Fe and Córdoba, while the Lower City and the province of Buenos Aires continue to be flat.
If it continues to grow at this rate, it would not be strange to think that it can climb the table until it is in fifth position, behind the United States, India, Brazil and Russia.
What is it that makes the cases in Argentina go up without brake?
Something that has already been warned over and over again, but that continues without a solution in sight: only
1,918,000 tests
have been
carried out
since the beginning of the pandemic.
That represents
0.35 percent of the 540 million tests that have been done worldwide
.
In other words, half of those that according to the average would correspond to Argentina based on its population proportion.
The positive data that - despite the registry confusion - remains for Argentina, would be its fatality rate.
Although from the addition of 3,500 extra deaths in the province of Buenos Aires, this index
grew more than expected
, it still has a relatively lower level of mortality than other countries that have the same number of cases.
Mexico, for example, is the opposite: it has triple the number of deaths.
In any case, this data is
still unknown and has been filled with uncertainty,
because it has not yet been clarified whether there is also
an under-registration of deaths in other provinces
of the country.
The information will surely finish being revealed once the national peak of the pandemic is behind us and all those figures are finally uploaded in the centralized base of the Ministry of Health.
