(Di Gina Di Meo) (ANSA) - NEW YORK, 30 SEPT - After the forced closure due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the Guggenheim in New York reopens on October 3 and starts again exhibiting the most monumental work of Pollock.

'Away from the Easel: Jackson Pollock's Mural' is dedicated mainly to the first monumental painting by the American painter (1912-1956) but includes three other minor works.

It is the first time in 20 years that the work has been exhibited in New York as it is the first time it arrives at the Guggenheim.

The Mural was commissioned by Peggy Guggenheim for her Manhattan home in the summer of 1943 and was completed the same year.

Almost seven meters wide and about two and a half meters high, the work is Pollock's largest canvas painting and represents a turning point in his artistic career.

"PeggyGuggenheim saw something in him - the curator of the exhibition Megan M. Fontanella explained to ANSA - and in commissioning the work she gave him carte blanche, she only indicated the measures of the wall of his house. Pollock not only had the opportunity to express himself but also to experiment on the canvas. Thanks to the support of the Guggenheim, the artist was able to become a full-time painter because he was given a wonderful monthly.

After the Mural he also had his first exhibition at the Guggenheim that same year. "

In addition to Pollock also on display 'Knotted, Torn, Scattered: Sculpture after Abstract Expressionism', with which they explore the different ways in which some artists of the 60s and ' 70 responded to the results of the exponents of Abstract Expressionism to formulate unique strategies of sculptural practice.
