The Covid-19 crisis has made their daily lives even heavier.
Will the caregivers be able to breathe a little?
From this Thursday, these French people who support an elderly, sick or disabled loved one will be able to apply for a compensated three-month leave.
How is this leave going to work?
The Parisian takes stock.
Who is affected by this leave?
Long invisible, caregivers are now occupying a more important place in society.
It is estimated that 11 million people take care of a loved one, an elderly mother, a child or a spouse with a disability.
All these caregivers, whether private and public sector employees, self-employed or job seekers, can benefit from this compensated leave.
How long does this leave last?
This leave will be for a maximum of three months, but may be renewed, up to one year over the entire career of the employee, according to the project approved by the National Assembly in October 2019. The decree validating his entry in force must be published Wednesday in the Official Journal, according to the Minister for Autonomy, Brigitte Bourguignon.

How much compensation?
The amount of compensation is set at 43.83 euros per day for a person in a couple and at 52.08 euros per day for a caregiver who lives alone.
Caregiver leave is not paid by the employer, but by the family allowance funds (CAF) and the agricultural social mutual insurance funds.
How to benefit from it?
Legally, any employee who requests it can benefit from this leave, subject to certain conditions.
First, the notice, for a period of one month before the desired date of departure on leave.
However, this delay is unnecessary in the event of an emergency, notably linked to a sudden deterioration in the state of health of the person receiving assistance (certified by a medical certificate), if a crisis situation requires urgent action by the employee or if the accommodation in an establishment from which the assisted person (certified by the head of the establishment) benefited suddenly ceases.
The request to the employer must be accompanied by several supporting documents, such as a declaration on the honor of the family bond, a copy of the decision justifying a degree of permanent incapacity of the assisted person, or a sworn statement specifying either that the employee has not previously had recourse, throughout his career, to family caregiver leave, or its duration if he has already benefited from it.
