(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 01 - The unemployment rate in August fell to 9.7% (-0.1 points on July) but among young people (15-24 years) it rose to 32.1% (+0.3 points ).
This was announced by Istat, pointing out that on a monthly basis "the growth in the number of employees already observed in July continues", which marks a + 0.4% equal to + 83 thousand units while on the year the decrease is 1.8%, equal to to -425 thousand units.
In the twelve months, the decline did not concern permanent workers, who grew by 0.9% (+135 thousand), but only temporary employees (-14.0% equal to -425 thousand) and self-employed workers (-2.5% equal to to -135 thousand).
Overall, the occupancy rate in August rose to 58.1% (+0.2 points compared to July).
Despite the cyclical growth in employment recorded in July and August, the level of employment is still more than 350 thousand units "lower than that of February 2020. And the number of people looking for work remains" higher, by about 70 thousand units , and that of the inactive, over 250 thousand units ". (ANSA).
