Jobs, Istat: timid recovery in August + 83 thousand employed, but young people are suffering

indicating that the decrease in job seekers in July was equal to 23,000 units (-0.9%) and that it concerns women and the over 25s.

The inactivity rate also fell, falling to 35.5% (-0.1 points again compared to July)

The youth unemployment rate continues to rise: in August for the 15-24 age group it rises to 32.1% (+0.3 points compared to July).

Istat communicates this by disseminating provisional data.

 In August 2020, "the growth in employment already observed in July continues, especially among men and self-employed workers".

In particular, employment on a monthly basis marks + 0.4% equal to +83 thousand units.

But on an annual basis, the decline is 1.8%, equal to -425 thousand units.

In the twelve months, the decrease does not concern permanent workers, which grew by 0.9% (+135 thousand), but only temporary employees (-14.0% equal to -425 thousand) and self-employed persons (-2, 5% equal to -135 thousand). 

Despite the growth in employment observed in July and August on a monthly basis, the level of employment "is still lower by more than 350 thousand units"

compared to that of February 2020. This is underlined by Istat, also indicating that it remains "higher both the number of people looking for work, of about 70 thousand units, and that of inactive, of over 250 thousand units ".
