After arson attacks on a police station, a Protestant church and a residential building early Saturday morning in Marbach am Neckar, a 42-year-old suspect is in custody.

The police announced on Saturday evening in Ludwigsburg.

The man is said to have thrown incendiary devices, a total of eight people were slightly injured: four residents of the affected apartment building, two first aiders and two police officers.

The background to the acts is still unclear.

The 42-year-old had made confused comments when he was arrested and also uttered "police and xenophobic slogans", according to the investigators.

After the first impression, the officials assume that he committed the act in a "psychological state of emergency".

According to the current state of the investigation, there are no indications of racist motives, said a police spokesman on Sunday.

The state security was not switched on.

According to initial estimates, the attacks caused damage of more than half a million euros.

The alleged perpetrator had thrown a self-made incendiary device against the entrance door of the police station in Marbach (Ludwigsburg district) at around 3 a.m.

At the same time, witnesses reported two fires in the vicinity: Incendiary devices, probably Molotov cocktails, had also been thrown against a residential building and the Protestant church.

Helpers put out the incendiary device on the Protestant church and took residents of the burning house outside.

The alleged arsonist was arrested immediately after the attack on the police station.

The man armed with a baton is said to have thrown a liquor bottle at an officer.
