The French-Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada died today (Sunday) of complications from the corona virus - this was reported by "Kendo", the fashion, grooming and cosmetics house he founded.

"We are saddened to announce the death of our artistic director. He died at the age of 81 at the American hospital in Cairo-sur-Seine in France following complications from coronary heart disease," the statement said.

Kenzo was known for his bold color combinations and floral prints inspired by his travels around the world, and was the first Japanese to succeed in the Parisian fashion scene.

He settled in Paris in the 1960s, where he embarked on a glorious career.

The designer inaugurated his flagship store in Paris Square in 1976, and over the next three decades has amassed many achievements.

He launched a perfume empire and was mentioned in every reputed fashion magazine in the world.

In 1993 his fashion house was acquired by the well-known corporation LVMH, and in 1999 he announced his retirement from the fashion world.

"Kenzo was a genius with a creative mind. I had the opportunity to work alongside him for many years, I was always full of reverence and admired his thinking. He seemed quiet and shy at first, but was full of humor and generosity. He celebrated art in life," Jonathan Butz praised him. T. Mannheim, CEO of the K-3 brand from Takada.
