Many parents find it very difficult to let their child move away.

Benno Fürmann is obviously one of them.

In an interview, the actor said that he cried after leaving his daughter Zoe on a six-month student exchange to Costa Rica.

At the age of 16 she went to Costa Rica.

And what did Fürmann do?

"I howled like a castle dog," the 48-year-old told the magazine "Bunte".

"For me it was unimaginable not to see my daughter for six months."

Fürmann and his daughter's mother had separated when Zoe was three years old.

"She grew up on an equal footing between both parents, and I was always there as a father," he said.

Zoe will be of legal age in three months.

He has the best discussions with his daughter over dinner, said Fürmann.

"I am proud that her mother and I managed to accompany her as she grew up together."
