1. Empty the vacuum cleaner container regularly
The simplest and most important way
to care for
a
vacuum cleaner is to
replace the vacuum cleaner bag or to empty the dust container on bagless vacuum cleaners.
As long as the vacuum cleaner is not in use, the dust container can also be
left open
.
This prevents moisture from building up, which in turn contributes to the formation of odors.
Every now and then it makes sense to
clean
the dust container
, if possible.
To
do
this, the container should be removed so that the
electronics of the vacuum cleaner
do not come into contact with water.
After that, it should absolutely
dry
before the next use
.
2. Do not pick up food with a vacuum cleaner
Even if it is useful in the kitchen:
Do not vacuum up any leftover food
.
Not even
dried ones
.
Because
bacteria
feel
particularly at home there.
It is these bacteria that create the smell in the vacuum cleaner.
Of course, in some situations it is difficult to avoid intentionally or unintentionally sucking up leftover food.
Then you should
empty
the vacuum cleaner bag or
container of the vacuum cleaner
.
3. Do not vacuum up damp dirt
Much like food,
moisture in
general
provides
an excellent
breeding ground for
bacteria
and
germs
.
Since a vacuum cleaner warms up quickly when in use, the odor causes multiply all the more.
So to protect
the
vacuum cleaner from stink
, it helps to keep it away from moisture and
not to suck up damp dirt
.
4. Store the vacuum cleaner in a dry place
As already mentioned, heat and moisture provide the
best conditions for
bacteria in vacuum cleaners
to multiply and
create
unpleasant smells
.
But heat alone can also contribute to
the vacuum cleaner stinking
.
Therefore, the vacuum cleaner should best be stored in a dry and dark place, i.e. protected from sunlight.

5. Soak up the soda powder
Once the
stench in the vacuum cleaner
is there, there are a few simple tricks to remove it: for example with baking soda.
It is suitable for baking, for foot baths and also for vacuum cleaners - and it is cheap too.
The powder is available in small bags in the drugstore.
Simply sprinkle some of it in front of the vacuum cleaner, vacuum
it up
, and the
odor in the vacuum cleaner can be neutralized
.
6. Use vacuum cleaner deodorant
Not only to avoid unpleasant body odors,
there is also deodorant for smelly vacuum cleaners
.
Mostly it is a question of incense sticks or granules that are put into the vacuum cleaner bag or container.
The deodorant not only helps against
bad smells in the vacuum cleaner
, but also spreads a good smell in the apartment.
Normal deodorant
should never be used for the vacuum cleaner.
It can
damage
the vacuum cleaner
and, in the worst case, catch fire.
7. Coffee, essential oils and tea in the vacuum cleaner
Tea, herbal mixtures or coffee can also be
sucked up
very
easily
and have the same effect as vacuum cleaner deodorant.
Instead of an unpleasant
smell,
the vacuum cleaner then gives off a
pleasant scent
.
Essential oils can also be helpful.
Dropped
on a
cotton pad
and put directly into a dust bag or dust container, they help against nasty smells.
However: These agents have
no cleaning effect
.
8 Soak up detergent
Laundry detergent also helps
neutralize odor
.
A few tablespoons are enough to drive the stink out of the vacuum cleaner.
These can be spread over a smooth surface and vacuumed up.
9. Clean the suction tube and hose of the vacuum cleaner
The
vacuum cleaner does
not only
collect odor
in dust bags or dust containers
.
The suction pipe or hose can also emit a smell.
On the other hand, cleaning these components also helps.
To do this, you can simply run
hot water
through the suction pipe or hose.
A little baking soda can help
loosen dirt
.
However, make sure that no electronic parts come into contact with water.
In addition,
all parts
should
dry well
before the vacuum cleaner is used again.
10. Clean or replace the exhaust air filter
As the
name suggests, all the air that comes out of the vacuum cleaner flows
through the
exhaust air filter
.
If this air from the vacuum cleaner has an
unpleasant smell
, it may also be due to this filter, for example if too
much dirt
has collected there or it has become damp.
In many cases, the exhaust air filters can also be cleaned and do not have to be replaced.
However, the filters should then
dry completely
again
.

If the suction power on the vacuum cleaner drops, this can have many causes.
The performance can be increased again with very simple tricks.
