In view of the rising number of corona infections, Berlin is considering new measures in schools.
"We will probably have to ask for your understanding for unconventional approaches," said Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD).
In addition to ventilation breaks in the classes, he mentioned the possibility "that we may have some kind of shift work at school in the mornings and afternoons".
That reduces the contact possibilities.
"I suspect something like this will be necessary in the winter months."
Individual choices
The Berlin school administration presented a step-by-step plan for the period after the autumn break on Thursday.
Depending on the number of infections, there may be stricter hygiene precautions, restrictions for mixed study groups or a combination of school and home tuition.
The authorities should make an individual decision once a week for each school.
Müller said Berlin would work with new ventilation and warning systems in schools.
"We are now also acquiring the technical equipment for this."
