Coronavirus in France: more than 20,000 cases in 24 hours, a record

The number of new contaminations recorded in 24 hours reached a new milestone this Friday. 62 new deaths are to be deplored.


The spread of the coronavirus continues in the country and the epidemic has just crossed a new threshold this Friday evening with the announcement of more new contaminations recorded in 24 hours.

According to the latest figures published this evening by Public Health France, 20,339 new contaminations have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

In the past two days, the number of new cases had exceeded 18,000.

The test positivity rate continues its inexorable rise and now stands at 10.4%, against 9.8% the day before.

Thursday, the Minister of Health had recognized that this rate was "high".

At the hospital, Santé Publique France reports 4,837 new hospitalizations over the last seven days.

Among them, 921 patients were taken care of in the intensive care unit.

In the past 24 hours, health authorities have recorded 62 new deaths linked to the coronavirus.

Since the start of the epidemic, the human toll has risen to 32,630 deaths in France.

Among them, 21,768 covid-19 patients lost their lives in hospital.

Regarding clusters, on the eve of the entry into force of new restrictions in several large cities in France, 1,362 sources of contamination remain under investigation to date.

This is 124 additional clusters that were identified in the space of 24 hours.
