Kyrgyzstan: state of emergency in Bishkek

The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov has imposed a state of emergency in the capital Bishkek from 8 pm today until 8 am on 21 October: the Kyrgyz presidential administration (ANSA) reports


 The president of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov has imposed a state of emergency in the capital Bishkek from 20 today until 8 in the morning of 21 October: the Kyrgyz presidential administration reports, reported by the Russian news agency Interfax.

According to the decree, the armed forces are asked to "deploy units and vehicles in Bishkek in order to organize checkpoints, avoid armed clashes, ensure law and order and protect the civilian population". 

Sooronbay Jeenbekov said he was "ready to step down" in an attempt to end the post-election chaos that is paralyzing the country. Speaking on his website, Jeenbekov said he was willing to leave when a date is set for new elections and the changes in the government will be confirmed by Parliament and his office. "After the legitimate executive authorities have been approved and we are back on the path of legality, I will be ready to step down as President of the Kyrgyz Republic," said Jeenbekov. Sooronbai Jeenbekov signed a decree relieving the country's government and prime minister from their duties. This was stated by the presidential press service. "The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov has signed a decree accepting the resignation of Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov. The government of Kyrgyzstan has also been relieved of its duties," reads the note, quoted by Interfax.
