: Netflix has to fear for customers.
Already almost
650,000 people
(as of September 14, 2020) were able to mobilize a petition calling on Netflix customers
to cancel
their
subscription to the streaming giant
.
The reason: the Netflix youth drama

.
The film is currently causing waves of outrage, as many viewers believe the film exploits children or even calls criminals onto the scene.
It was actually the intention of director Maïmouna Doucouré to criticize the exploitation of young girls.
The film "Cuties" is about the eleven year old Amy (Fathia Youssouf Abdillahi), who moves with her family from Senegal to Paris and wants to become a dancer. Together with her young schoolmates she is shown in skimpy outfits and like the young girls want to win a dance competition with provocative movements.

"This film could have been a powerful rebuke for pop culture that robs children [...] of their innocence," says a press release.
Basically, the film would address an important problem, but the
implementation and representation of the exploitation
is questionable.
Many users agree with this assessment, as the number of petitions shows.
