King Harald V of Norway has successfully inserted a new heart valve.
"The operation was successful and the king is in good condition," said the Norwegian palace.
The Norwegian monarch has had breathing problems for several weeks, according to the palace.
The procedure was necessary to improve the 83-year-old's breathing.
"Not uncommon"
The king had heart valve surgery back in 2005.
At that time it was replaced by an artificial heart valve made of biological material.
These have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.
It is therefore not uncommon for such a flap to be replaced after a certain time, according to the palace.
Harald is said to be on sick leave until the end of October.
During this time he is represented by his son, Crown Prince Haakon.
