Google today dedicates the doodle to
Anton Wilhelm Amo
, a naturalized German Ghanaian philosopher.
He was the first African student to attend a European university.
Lecturer at the German universities of Halle and Jena, of which he had been a student, Amo had arrived on the European continent in 1707, still a child, brought here by the ships of the Dutch West India Company.
Icon of the fight against racism, on 10 October 1730 Anton Wilhelm Amo would have obtained the equivalent of a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Wittenberg.
