Billboard Latin Song of the Decade Award
for the worldwide hit “Despacito,” during the
Billboard Latin Music Awards,
Telemundo and Billboard
announced today
.
Both artists will also perform during the most prestigious awards ceremony in the Latin music industry that will air live on
Telemundo
on
Wednesday, October 21
from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida, beginning with “La Alfombra de Premios Billboard” at 7 pm/6c and followed by the awards at 8 pm/7c.
"Despacito" has topped Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart for a record 56 weeks (non-consecutive), the most for any Latin song since the chart's inception in 1986.
The success of "Despacito" set the longevity mark atop Hot Latin Songs when it spent its 42nd week at No. 1 on the chart dated February 17, 2018, surpassing the 41-week reign of "Bailando" by Enrique Iglesias, with Descemer.

In May 2017, "Despacito" also made history at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which includes songs from all genres, then tying the weeks record at No. 1 (16) set by "One Sweet Day. "by Mariah Carey and Boyz II in 1996.
