He actually makes a name for himself with novels.

Now, however, France's best-known and most controversial author has changed his profession: Michel Houellebecq is standing in front of the camera as an actor - in a comedy.

As reported by "Variety" and confirmed by his artist agency on Instagram, the writer will be involved in the film "Rumba Therapy".

His character is described as a doctor with a dry sense of humor.

In photos shared by the agency, you can see the 64-year-old writer in a white coat.

The comedy is about Tony in his mid-fifties, who goes in search of his daughter in order to get closer to her again.

She works as a dance teacher - and Tony hates dancing.

However, he still registers for her class.

When and how the doctor embodied by Houellebecq appears is not yet known.

In addition to Franck Dubosc, who plays Tony, and Louna Espinosa, who gives his daughter, Marie-Philomène Nga and Jean-Pierre Darroussin are on the cast list.

With Depardieu in the wellness oasis

It is not Houellebecq's first acting experience.

The author already played himself as a kidnapping victim in "The Abduction of Michel Houellebecq" by Guillaume Nicloux.

In its sequel, "Thalasso", which Nicloux also staged, Houellebecq moved into a wellness oasis next to the actor Gérard Depardieu.

The two improvised dialogues about God (actually) and the world to a large extent.

Houellebecq is considered one of the most successful and internationally best known writers in France, but at the same time one of the most polemical.

In his novel "Submission" he described a France under the rule of radical Muslims;

the book was published on the day of the Islamist attack on the satirical newspaper "Charlie Hebdo" in January 2015. Last year he published his last book "Serotonin".

The novel about the hopelessness in rural regions of France seemed to anticipate the protests of the "yellow vests".
