Bullying and Abuse, Women in Hollywood Doubly Victims of Harassment - Lifestyle

Women in the film industry are doubly subject to bullying and harassment.

It is the result of the third round of research carried out by the Hollywood commission led by lawyer Anita Hill, made nationally famous in 1991, when it accused then-candidate of the Supreme Court of the United States of America Clarence Thomas, of sexual harassment.

The survey took place over the course of three months and involved about 10 thousand participants working in the sector.

The data revealed that basically Hollywood has a bullying problem.

"Hollywood - reads the report from the Hollywood Commission for Eliminating Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace led by Hill - has a deep-rooted and endemic problem with bullying which is exacerbated by imbalances in power in the industry".

In the survey, the definition of bullying included, among others, intimidating or humiliating behaviors including insults, sarcasm, gestures, shouts or even physically aggressive acts.

While the definition of bullies included supervisors who deal with hours and workloads, employee duties, or decisions to fire someone.

In 68% of cases they were men, in 31% women.

According to Hill, bullying is condoned in Hollywood as a kind of career price.

"Bullying - he argues - could have been an accepted norm in the past but in 2020 we understand the evil that causes an environment full of humiliating insults and sarcasm, the throwing of objects out of anger and profanity"
