The IDF Corona National Campaign and Knowledge Center published a position paper this evening (Friday) calling on the center's experts not to rush the removal of the closure imposed following the spread of the virus in the country - and to warn of the consequences of returning to routine too soon.

The center expressed concern that although guidelines have been set for the removal of restrictions and points where it would be appropriate to stop the easing and even impose additional restrictions, public pressure from various sectors will lead to the breach of the dam and a significant increase in morbidity and mortality.

In the document, the authors referred to the uncontrolled opening, as defined, of the first closure, and the consequent increase in infection.

The document compared the pressure exerted by businesses and various sectors today to the pressure to open the education system and businesses last June, warning that careless conduct would at best lead to non-compliance with the next steps set by the government in the quarantine plan, and at worst to thousands dying before the disease.

"We are currently seeing increased pressure to lift restrictions, similar to what we experienced when leaving the first quarantine," the document said. "Some advocate removing restrictions on weddings, some focus on sporting and cultural events, some insist on B & Bs and hotels, and some insist on high schools or meetings."

The writers went on to say "the actual dynamic is 'whoever managed to open focal points won and whoever waits patiently lost', this is a very dangerous dynamic."

The authors presented a calculation, which they claim is conservative, in which opening the economy too quickly will lead to about 5,000 deaths in the next six months, under the assumption that after this period there will be a vaccine.
