Corona: Empty toilet paper shelves as a horror scenario?
Signs of regional differences
What, on the other hand, has hardly been a problem to this day, is the horror scenario for many consumers in Germany: that
the toilet paper is running out
.
Now that the much announced "second corona wave" has occurred and is causing heated tempers and renewed anxiety in many places, it is to be feared that some people do not know better and tend to stash toilet paper and other hygiene items.
It is hardly surprising that the hashtag “toilet paper” is back in trend on Twitter - although fortunately with humorous entries:

If you take into account the current feedback from consumers at discounters in Germany, there seem to be regional differences, as
Focus.de
reports.
Because while in some federal states there is definitely increasing demand in the (see original article below), the situation in
Munich and the surrounding area
seems to be
a bit different.
The sources are
supermarkets
in the east of the city and in Dachau to the west, where neither Lidl nor Aldi employees have so far been able to determine any changes in buying behavior with regard to toilet paper.
"I hope that people react differently than in spring and that the last few months have shown that this hamstering is not necessary", describes a branch manager of the news portal - an appeal that every customer should take to heart.
One can only support it if people, regardless of the recent
rise in the number of corona infections,
assess the situation as the customer of a supermarket, who also gave information to Focus: "One can only hope that people have come to their senses in the meantime and have noticed that
hoarding toilet paper or pasta is
absolutely pointless. "
Corona hamster purchases in autumn?
Aldi and Lidl notice increasing demand
Original article from October 15:
During the
Corona lockdown
in March,
hamster purchases were
the order of the day
worldwide
- toilet paper was particularly popular with Germans in the spring.
This went so far that customers in many supermarkets were only allowed to buy one pack.
An online market even emerged, where the
toilet paper was sold in
rolls for a multiple of its value.
The sale of toilet paper was to a certain extent an indicator of the nervousness of consumers during the lockdown.

Corona crisis: Hamster purchases in autumn - toilet paper with increasing demand
As the WiWo reported,
images similar to those in spring could already be observed
in an
Aldi
car park in Cologne.
A young man said: “It's like being in lockdown.” Another customer stated: “Toilet paper is getting scarce again.” The Aldi branch in Cologne is still a long way from conditions like in March and empty shelves.
However,
Aldi-Süd
confirms
: "We are currently seeing a slight increase in demand for individual products, including toilet paper, in our branches for the first time."
Competitor
Lidl
observed a similar shopping
behavior
, as
WA.de *
explains: “In some regions and branches we are seeing slightly increased demand for our hygiene range.
However, we are well prepared for a change in the situation and can react quickly through adapted measures in order to supply the branches with sufficient goods. ”According to Lidl, it is well prepared for situations similar to those during the lockdown in spring.
The retail chains
Kaufland
, Rewe
and
dm
cannot confirm a higher demand for toilet paper.
Likewise, there are currently no signs of renewed
hamster purchases
.

Corona crisis: Hamster purchases in autumn - toilet paper with increasing demand
Hopefully there shouldn't be pictures like in March this fall.
In the second week of March 2020,
toilet paper
sales were
135 percent higher than in the comparable
week of
2019 - these figures are currently still a long way off.
In addition, the supermarkets seem to be much better prepared than at the beginning of the corona pandemic.
