 Worldwide, women occupy only 24% of parliamentary seats and 18% of ministerial posts;

in 2018 only 17 women were heads of state or prime minister and in the management roles of 1 in 4 companies there is no woman.

These are some of the data that emerged from a research anticipated today by Madeline Di Nonno, CEO of the Geena Davis institute on Gender in media, on the occasion of the virtual presentation of the third edition of L'Eredità delle Donne (23-25 October in Florence), which will be released in full during the festival.

    The institute was created in 2004 by Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis with the aim of collecting data on female presence and roles in entertainment and media and to combat discrimination.

The research carried out by the Geena Davis institute in collaboration with Plan International, it was explained, is based on a sample of 10 thousand girls from 19 countries on every continent, aged between 16 and 25: 59% want to be leaders in their work but 60% think they have to work twice as much as a man to be equally respected.

    In the world of media and the film and television industry, the situation does not change: of the 10 blockbuster films in 2018, none were directed by a director, only 1 in 4 had a woman among the producers and only 1 in 10 had a woman among the writers.

The research then examined how the 56 major film productions in the world have portrayed women leaders: out of 2000 female characters analyzed, only 27% hold leadership roles.
