(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, 18 OCT - The nationalist Ersin Tatar, strongly supported by the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is the new 'president' of the Turkish separatist republic of Northern Cyprus, recognized only by Ankara.
In today's ballot, Tatar obtained 51.7% of the votes, defeating the outgoing Mustafa Akinci, moderate and pro-reunification, given time to ropes with Erdogan, who stopped at 48.3%.
The turnout was 67.3%.
