Many fans did not expect this news: "Dexter" is getting a new season.
With the revival, the makers want to correct some series errors.
The list of successful series, the finale of which has been severely criticized by fans, is astonishingly long.
The most recent example is likely to be “Game of Thrones” *.
So far, the makers have to endure the accusation that they dealt with the 8th season too quickly and didn't tell the story logically.
With regard to
“Dexter”
, fans also saw the final eighth season as problematic.
Specifically, some viewers criticized the development of the main character
Dexter (Michael C. Hall)
, which ended up in a direction that was difficult to understand.
While the makers of
"Game of Thrones"
see no reason to correct the finale with a new shoot of the 8th season, the "Dexter" producers show understanding after seven years.
They want to
produce another season
and
correct the mistakes of the last season in it
.
“Dexter” is getting a sequel - creators want to use it to correct their own mistakes
Clyde Phillips
, showrunner of
"Dexter"
, spoke up shortly after the sequel was announced on the American podcast TV's Top 5.
In it, he goes into more detail about the new season, which he does not see as a mere opportunity to correct a botched finale.
Since many years have passed since the 8th season, the makers would have enough leeway for a completely new story - so it's more of a
new project than a 9th season
.
In terms of plot, the planned sequel begins after the events of season 8, Phillips reveals:
We're more or less starting from scratch.
We don't want the new episodes to be seen as Season 9 of "Dexter".
Ten or even many more years will have passed when the episodes appear and the series will take that leap in time into account.
The new series finale will have no resemblance to the previous finale.
It's a great way to produce a second finale.
It's a way of getting things right.
But this rectification is not why we are doing it.
We're not undoing anything.
We're not going to deceive the audience and say, 'Oops, it was all a dream'.
What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years.
