This figure does not take into account other damage, including roads or bridges, for which the state has planned to release funds.

A first assessment, after the passage of the storm Alex in the Alpes-Maritimes.

The floods which devastated several valleys in the Alpes-Maritimes at the beginning of October, and which left 5 dead according to a provisional assessment, resulted in insured damage, the cost of which is estimated at around 210 million euros.

"A total of 14,000 claims should be recorded for a cost of insured damage which should reach 210 million euros", mainly for damage to homes and to a lesser extent to professional and agricultural property, said Monday the French Insurance Federation in a press release.

This amount is distributed “between damage caused to homes (72%), professional and agricultural property (25%) and cars (3%).

It does not include damage to public infrastructure that is not insured, ”the statement said.

These figures are not final.

They constitute a provisional estimate which may be revised in the coming days when all the affected areas have been made accessible and all claims have been made.

In this regard, the federation specifies that insurers have extended the legal deadline for declaring claims, so that victims can declare their damage until November 15.

The floods of October 2 literally devastated parts of the La Vésubie and Roya valleys in the Nice hinterland.

Colossal reconstruction of roads, bridges, water and electricity networks are now necessary at a cost of at least one billion euros.

A prefect responsible for the reconstruction of disaster areas in the Alpes-Maritimes was also appointed to the Council of Ministers a week ago.

Xavier Pelletier, member of the prefectural body and current director general of the Lyon Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), will have to “manage the current emergencies linked to the devastating effects of bad weather, as well as the entire reconstruction process”.
