Thuringia's police have investigated members of the voluntary fire brigade who are suspected of having formed a right-wing extremist chat group.

It is about possible politically motivated crimes by some members of the voluntary fire brigade Bad Lobenstein, said a spokeswoman for the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior and confirmed a report by "Business Insider Germany".

According to the news site, a picture of Adolf Hitler with the message "Go vote !!!"

The photo of a sign in front of the SS area of a concentration camp was therefore sent with the comment "Correct installation location found 👌".

According to Business Insider, the authorities were informed of the right-wing extremist news months ago.

When the chat participants were searched, a shock pistol, firecrackers and digital data carriers were found, citing the security authorities.

Chat participants apparently with a history

Some of the people had apparently been known to the authorities for a long time, including a youth warden who is said to be a supporter of the so-called Reich Citizens Movement.

According to the site, the investigations have not yet had any personal consequences.

In the past few months, right-wing extremist chat groups in the police had already sparked debates and investigations.

Hartmut Ziebs, former president of the German Fire Brigade Association, said in an interview with SPIEGEL last year that right-wing nationalists have a strong interest in the fire department.

He had warned of a possible infiltration of the fire service by right-wing extremists.

"In principle, the fire brigade is not right-wing. Most of our members belong to the democratic center," said Ziebs.

A few days after the interview, Ziebs finally announced his withdrawal due to internal quarrels in the association.
