Pediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (PMIS) is a disease that has been exposed in the past year following the outbreak of coronary heart disease and is reminiscent in its characteristics of "Kawasaki" disease.
Kawasaki is an acute inflammation of the middle blood vessels in children and is thought to be the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children, which can lead to an aneurysm in the coronary arteries in the heart and even death.
PMIS syndrome involves the involvement of respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms, signs of inflammation in the membranes such as the mouth and various skin rashes as well as severe cardiac involvement.
To date, the syndrome has been found worldwide in hundreds of children who have been positive for the corona virus, most of them aged 5-18.
Most patients required hospitalization in intensive care units and some developed shock.
The duration of hospitalization ranges from one to two weeks, during which the children needed various treatments such as intravenous immunoglobulin infusion, and steroids.
Some patients even needed artificial respiration.
