(ANSA) - LAGOS, OCTOBER 21 - No victims but at least 25 injuries were shot on demonstrators who violated the curfew in the Nigerian city of Lagos.
This was said today by the governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
"We are comforted by not having recorded any deaths, unlike what has been circulated widely on social media," the governor said, adding that he ordered an investigation into the "rules of engagement of the Nigerian army men deployed last night at the Lekki toll booth."
Amnesty International said yesterday that several protesters were killed in a shooting and that there was no independent assessment of the death toll.
Nigeria is in its second week of demonstrations against police abuse.
The protests did not stop at the communication of the dissolution of the special anti-robbery squad, a unit accused of various brutalities.
The demonstrators, in fact, called for a general reform of the police and the pursuit of those responsible.
