A young man was arrested in connection with the attack on two tourists from North Rhine-Westphalia in downtown Dresden in early October.
The 20-year-old was caught in the city center, as announced by prosecutors and police.
According to SPIEGEL information, the suspect was arrested by a special task force on Tuesday evening.
According to the investigators, an arrest warrant was applied for against the man, which is to be decided later in the day.
The suspicion against is based on the evidence, it said.
The motive and background of the attack are still unclear and the subject of the investigation, as a spokesman for the prosecutor said.

Knife secured at the scene
Two men, 53 and 55 years old, were seriously injured in the attack on October 4.
The 55-year-old from Krefeld later died in the hospital, the 53-year-old from Cologne survived the attack.
