A Norwegian forgot his wife at a motorway rest stop in Lower Saxony.
According to the police, the man drove with his son, but without his wife, from a parking lot near Göttingen back onto the A7.
After visiting the toilet on Wednesday, the woman discovered that the two would have made their way without her.
The family was reportedly coming from Spain with a pick-up on the way home.
A customs officer, who happened to be at the rest area, looked after the abandoned and started a search.
The car was finally stopped about 50 kilometers north, it said.
The officers said that the husband and son answered the police's question about the wife's whereabouts quite naturally with "She's sleeping in the back seat".
Only after a second inquiry did the two turn around and notice their disappearance.
The family was then reunited in the village of Mengershausen on the A7.
According to the police, she took it "overall with humor".
