Huge clouds of smoke could be seen in photos and videos: In Colorado, a forest fire spread rapidly overnight and became the fourth largest fire in the history of the US state.
The Washington Post and the local newspaper Denver Post reported on Thursday.
Meanwhile, an area of about 508 square kilometers is burning.
This corresponds to around 90 percent of the area of Lake Constance.
More than 400 square kilometers were added in the night from Wednesday to Thursday alone.
So far, no reports of deaths or injuries
Hundreds of residents were forced to leave their homes and the entire Grand Lake community evacuated.
Rocky Mountain National Park is now also affected and has been closed.
According to the local sheriff, there have been no reports of dead or injuries.

The largest of these, the so-called Cameron Peak Fire, has now covered an area of around 800 square kilometers, as reported by the Denver Post.
