The French Council of Muslim Worship denounces the irruption of "radicalism […] claiming to be Islam" and "the horrible assassination" of Samuel

The French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM) explains this Saturday working on the development of a "common training program for imams" and a "fight plan" against radicalism.

This announcement comes a week after the assassination of Samuel Paty, professor at Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.

The CFCM, the main interlocutor of the public authorities on Islam, is "aware of its responsibilities" and "intends to participate in the refounding of the Muslim religion by taking into consideration its cultural and social implications", explains its president, Mohammed Moussaoui.

The body announces that it will "develop a plan to fight against all forms of radicalism and extremism capable of immunizing French youth against the propaganda of preachers of hatred and division".

The CFCM intends to convene on November 1 its “prevention commission against radicalism” on this subject.

Macron gives six months delay

Thursday, the body sent the imams of France a proposal for a text they could use as inspiration for their preaching, denouncing the emergence of "radicalism [...] claiming to be Islam" and "the horrible assassination" by Samuel Paty, beheaded after giving a course on freedom of expression.

In a press release, the institution also notes the establishment of "a commission responsible for developing a common training program for imams and chaplains in France", which will meet for the first time in a week.

In his speech on “separatism” delivered at Mureaux (Yvelines) a few days before the attack, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, explained that he wanted to build “an Islam of the Enlightenment” and gave the CFCM six months to work on unique training for imams in France.
