"The new album of unreleased tracks was ready, it photographed my world before the global stop - says Pezzali, ready to cross the milestone of 30 years of career, from that 1991 when it all started with the participation in Castrocaro and the following year with the The overwhelming success of Who Killed Spider-Man -. When I took it back in my hand, I went into a bit of a crisis: it seemed to me that it was telling something that was no longer there and indeed it was out of tune with the general situation of the moment ".
To remove him from the embarrassment, a few weeks ago, Michele Canova thought about it, proposing him a song (written jointly with Jacopo Ettore) which then gave the title to the project: Something new, to be released on October 30 for Warner Music , five years after the previous Spaceship Max. A romantic ballad that "acted as the glue and bridge between the before and after. The key that gave dignity to the rest, a beautiful wrapping paper that wraps everything".
And it is no coincidence that he gave the title to the album, because "something new is what we need now, in human relationships as in personal motivations, to look beyond the horizon", says the singer-songwriter who wanted it so , by means of the disc, leave behind a world that no longer exists.
"Our illusion is that it will go back to how it was before the coronavirus, but it is only an illusion."
And this is also true for live performances: "There is a need for live music, subrogations and palliatives don't work. And they don't work for the audience that needs to feel close and for the artists who are on stage and need that. energy that comes from the audience. The same thing goes for football: the empty stadium with the players on the pitch is terrible ".
In the album, the fifth released with his name, runs the thread of memory and what has been, of the time that passes and the relationship (not always easy) with the present.
"But it is not nostalgia for its own sake - explains the 53-year-old Pezzali -. The past serves as a litmus test not to regret a past that no longer exists, but to interpret the present and prepare us for the future. who like me, with my baggage, with my age and with a 12-year-old son, relates to today. Yesterday we went at 50 per hour, today it goes to 350. The digital revolution has brought epochal changes in times very fast ".
Difficult times to decode, adds Pezzali, "also due to the acceleration in the circulation of information and knowledge. Reflection does not belong to this historical moment".
He - unexpectedly a philosopher - moves along the line of "too old to be young and too young to be old. But with the awareness that the negative moments have been counterbalanced by the positive ones.
