Women on a flight from Qatar to Australia say they have undergone invasive internal tests after airport staff discovered a newborn baby in an airport toilet, according to the BBC.
On October 2, the women, including 13 Australians, were taken off Qatar Airways QR908 and taken to an ambulance, where they were forced to take off their underwear and undergo an examination.
Doha airport staff, the capital of Qatar, apparently tried to determine if one of the women had just given birth to a baby in one of the restrooms.
The baby was not identified and the mother was not located.
Officials at Doha International Airport did not deny the reports, stating that they had asked the women to cooperate in the searches and that they were still trying to locate the newborn's mother, according to AFP.
The Australian government has condemned the search for the women, saying "the case is very worrying and the treatment of women at Doha Airport is unacceptable," according to the British Guardian.
An Australian Foreign Office spokesman said: "Apparently, the treatment of women was aggressive, abusive, highly inappropriate and out of all proportion, especially when the women could agree to be questioned and provide information of their own free will."
He added that the Australian government had been in contact with Qatar officials to discuss the worrying incident.
