.

It happened on Sunday, but for days there have been news of ambulances waiting to transfer the suspected positive Covid to the emergency areas of Sicilian hospitals.

Only this time the photo of the 118 nurse who falls asleep exhausted on the wheel of the ambulance waiting in front of the hospital has become one of the symbolic images of this emergency.

"I'm thinking about what I experienced today with my team, dressed for eight hours in a row with a suspect in an ambulance then be positive, eight endless hours and it's not over yet ...".

One of the 118 health workers writes on his Facebook profile.

And he published photos of his own fatigue and of his exhausted colleagues, including the nurse slumped on the steering wheel whose image was also taken by Rai's Tg1.

The latest story on the coronavirus emergency in Palermo was told by the information site livesicilia.it which also published the image depicting the exhausted nurse.

In the equipped pre-triage tents outside the hospital there are positive patients waiting to be examined and then transferred to the Covid wards.

In the meantime, the medical personnel with the patient on board remain in the ambulance, with the crew unable to move and the patient taken in charge awaiting his turn.

The intervention of the 118 ambulance started at 10 in the morning and ended only at 18, when the result of the molecular swab was positive.
