Canadian Michael Woods won the 7th stage of the Vuelta di Spagna at the finishing line in Villanueva de Valdegovía, in the Basque Country, after which the leader of the general classification Richard Carapaz kept the red jersey.
At 34, Woods (Education First) signed his first hit on one of three major tours.
Participating in the massive breakaway of the day (36 riders), the Canadian went on the attack with four other fugitives in Puerto de Orduña, the last difficulty of the day (7.8 km at 7.7%).
On arrival he preceded the Spaniards Omar Fraile and Alejandro Valverde.
Ecuadorian Carapaz (Ineos) remains in the red jersey with a 30-second lead over Primoz Roglic.
