"And tomorrow the whole world" should compete for Germany at the Oscars in spring 2021.

This was announced by German Films, the foreign representation of German films.

The producers of a total of ten films had submitted their works (here the list).

It's about the category that was formerly known as "Best Non-English Language Film".

It's now called "International Feature Film", so it's about the best international feature film.

Mala Emde plays the student Luisa in "And tomorrow the whole world", who, in addition to studying law, is becoming increasingly involved in left-wing and antifastic circles.

She wants to defend herself against right-wing populists and Nazis.

Violence breaks out on their first major political action.

A highly political film that had its international premiere at the important Venice Film Festival.

The main actress Emde was honored as the best actress.

Conflicts that no one can avoid

At a time when democracy is coming under increasing pressure, the director is investigating the question of whether violence is justified or even necessary, the jury justified her decision.

"And tomorrow the whole world" confronts the audience with conflicts and decision-making processes that no one can avoid.

A jury commissioned by German Films will decide who will be the German Oscar candidate.

Later, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) selects five films from all international applications - a hurdle that Nora Fingscheidt failed to overcome with her drama "Systemsprenger" last year.

Who will be nominated this year will be announced on February 5, 2021.

The Oscars will then be awarded on April 25, 2021.
