  • Mutual trust, honesty and a similar value system are among the cornerstones of a healthy relationship.

Anyone who leads one can count on positive effects on health.

  • But there is a medical argument why a well-functioning partnership can be bad for your health.

  • For example, US researchers found that partners can very well influence each other badly - without being aware of it

    .

Especially at the beginning of a relationship, you just stick to each other.

Active couples can then be found in the mountains, swimming or traveling; more comfortable partners can get along very well on the sofa, in the cinema or in the restaurant.

It is obvious: the less you move *, the more unhealthy - but this applies to everyone, whether single or in a relationship.

But an unhealthy phenomenon prevails in relationships, which scientists have described in a recent study.

Unhealthy couple relationships - this phenomenon increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases

Dov Shiffman from the Californian Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute and his team came to the conclusion that

in almost 80 percent of relationships, the partners adopt unhealthy habits such as poor diet or too little exercise from each other.

The analysis is based on data from 5,364 US couples who started the health assessment program of the US company "Quest Diagnostics" between October 2014 and August 2015.

The focus was on the question of how healthy or unhealthy the participants lived.

The evaluation of the study showed: The vast majority of the participating couples shared cardiovascular risks such as high blood pressure.

Also noticeable: More than a quarter of the people had poor values in the categories for BMI, physical activity and cardiovascular health, as reported by MDR Wissen.

The researchers explain that 79 percent of couples could not be classified in the ideal category for cardiovascular health mainly due to an

unhealthy diet and insufficient exercise in the couple relationship

But good habits also rub off on the partner

But the study also revealed positive things: It emerged from it that more than half of all participants never smoked and had good cholesterol levels.

And when a partner stopped smoking or started to exercise more, the chances that the partner would do the same increased

.

The researchers conclude that it is important that people develop an awareness that their behavior can influence the health of their partner.

Those who eat healthier and do more sport also increase the chance that their partner will adopt a healthier lifestyle.
