There is still a high demand for the Playstation 5. The console will appear in a few weeks, but will it be delivered on time for the release?
The Playstation 5 * will be released in November.
Sony started mass production of the PS5 months ago, and demand is still high.
The console is sold out in advance, but will all pre-orderers get their PS5 in time for the release?
The pre-sale of the Playstation 5 started a while ago.
If you want to pre-order a PS5 by the time it is released, you are now late because the console is sold out everywhere.
But even those who have pre-ordered with a confirmation from their dealer cannot be completely sure that they will receive their copy on time on the day of publication.
PS5: There could be a delivery bottleneck
Sony announced a few months ago that the coronavirus pandemic would not affect the production of the PS5 and that the console would therefore be released in the planned release period.
But according to Bloomberg, Sony may
not be able to deliver enough consoles to partner dealers by the end of the year
due to
delivery
restrictions.
Much of the Sony consoles are made in China and shipped by sea around the world, and it would take months to ship.
The coronavirus-related restrictions had already resulted in Nintendo
experiencing
bottlenecks in the delivery
of Switch consoles
at the
beginning of the year
.
This could also be a problem with the PS5.
Sony started mass production of the console in June 2020 and expects five million units to be completed by the end of September and another five million between October and December.
A large part of the second load could possibly
only be
delivered
in 2021 due to the logistical restrictions
.
In Europe and Germany, too, this could mean that
not every buyer receives their PS5 on time
for the launch day in November.
The next
challenge
for Sony is therefore to
deliver
the pre-ordered units on time during the
Christmas season
.
As GamesWirtschaft reports, retailers in Germany point out that it depends on “on-time delivery of goods from Sony Interactive”.
PS5: Sony boosted the production of the Playstation 5
Bloomberg and Nikkei reported in the summer, citing anonymous insiders, that Sony had
roughly doubled
production of PS5 consoles
.
The company actually planned to produce six million units by March 2021.
After it became clear how coveted the PS5 would be, the production number
had been increased
to
ten million consoles by the end of 2020
.
According to projections, at least 100,000 of these are planned for the German market (via GamesWirtschaft).

PS5: Pre-orders are only possible to a limited extent
Message of July 21, 2020:
There are still
price
,
release date
and the start of
pre-orders
not known.
But the rumor mill among those interested is already simmering.
Recently, many users believed that the pre-orders would already start - but they still have to be patient.
Sony's head of marketing also advises Playstation fans to remain patient.
A user has now found interesting references in the source code or in the Javascript files of the PlayStation Direct Shop in the Resetera forum.
This should
contain
instructions for pre-ordering the
Playstation 5 consoles
.
Accordingly, an error message appears if buyers try to store more than one PS5 in their shopping cart: “You can only purchase one version of the PS5 console: with a drive or digital.
You have already put a PS5 console in your shopping cart, ”it would say when trying.
The fact that
Sony
(for the time being) only wants to allow one console per customer via direct sales reinforces the assumption that Sony wants to prepare for possible delivery bottlenecks.
For this reason, stock purchases at the beginning of the pre-order phase should be avoided as far as possible.
