(ANSA) - BOLZANO, OCTOBER 30 - Austria is intensifying its health checks on the borders with Italy and Slovenia in view of the re-entry of the Austrians, after the autumn holidays.
School holidays end on the weekend and Interior Minister Karl Nehammer expects an increase in traffic returning from the south.
"Limiting the spread of the virus is our top priority. The situation is very serious," he said.
Police and health personnel are present at the borders for health checks, as already happened during phase 2, after the lockdown.
This involves measuring the temperature and detecting the place of departure of travelers. 223,120 border checks were carried out between Friday and last Tuesday, and a health check was carried out in 119,623 cases. 136 people were not allowed to enter Austria due to the anti-Covid measures in force, while 1,324 people had domestic isolation, informs the ministry.
