The 21-year-old Tunisian Brahim Aoussaoui, author of yesterday morning's attack on the cathedral of Nice, had told his brother - who lives in Tunisia - that he "wanted to spend the night in front of the basilica".
The same brother said so in Al Arabiya.
The man also sent his brother "a photo of the building".
The family confirmed that "what we saw in the pictures is him, our son".
"He phoned me as soon as he arrived in France," explained the mother.
A neighbor said that before leaving the country "he had done various jobs".
Tunisia strongly condemned the terrorist attack and the anti-terrorism prosecutor of the capital has opened an investigation to clarify Aoussaoui's contacts and life in Tunisia.
Some family members have already been heard by the investigators.
